Masonic Charities stems from the sale of Masonic Homes not-for-profit retirement villages throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory. The repurposed funds are being used to support health research and community activities throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory which have relevance and alignment with Freemasonry’s underlying charter of benevolence.
The initial Masonic Charities corpus was $50 million and as a Public Ancillary Fund (PAF) it is required to dispense 4% of the corpus fund annually. The MCT is resolved to not only preserve the corpus but to significantly grow it to enable philanthropy as an enduring feature of Masonic charity in the community with a 100 year vision.
The Masonic Charities Trust (MCT) is governed by a highly skilled Board of Directors whose role is to carefully manage and grow the corpus of funds, determine how best to distribute the prescribed funds annually and to manage the affairs of the organisation. It is hoped that with the Board’s more contemporary approach to delivering its charter, Freemasonry will attract new members with a shared to commitment to the principles of Freemasonry.
Revolving around a number of timeless principles, such as brotherly love, relief and truth, Masonic Charities’ vision is to drive Freemasonry’s ongoing relevance and service throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory.
How We Help?
The Masonic Charities Trust (MCT) is a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) Public Ancillary Fund (PAF) and is the major philanthropic arm of Freemasonry in South Australia and the Northern Territory. The MCT works in close cooperation with the Freemasons Foundation driving Freemasonry’s ongoing relevance and service assisting persons who are in significant need.
Under the Trust Deed, an Advisory Committee, chaired by the Grand Superintendent ensure appropriate recommendations for benevolent charitable projects are raised for the consideration of the MCT Board. To ensure appropriate representation and engagement across the whole of the jurisdiction, Committee members are drawn from a number of different regions.
